This year the RT Convention was in Kansas City which gave me the opportunity to see my cousin who lives there. It also gave me the chance to meet up with writing friends and spend time with my daughter who has fallen in love with RT’s Teen Day. Last year she discovered Kelley Armstrong and is now a major fan. Never mind that her mother had been a fan of Kelley’s since the beginning and had told said daughter that she should check out her books…

Our trip was quick. In on Friday, just in time to dash to the awards ceremony, under-dressed I’m sure, and then out early Sunday morning. But it was still a great time.

Next year the convention is in New Orleans. Any of you going? Any of you go this year? I’m really weighing if I should go and if I do, if I should just do the Teen Day again or go all out and attend as an author…

Big decisions.

FYI, if you haven’t been in a few years, the convention has changed, in my opinion for the better. The sexy is still there… check out the room keys Jaci Burton sponsored… but it isn’t in your face. I felt completely comfortable walking the halls with my daughter. And at the book signing too. In fact, they separate young adult authors in their own section. You can walk freely to the other areas, but it is nice to have them all in one block.

There also seems to be a lot of support for self-published authors too. They have two book signings: one for indies and one for traditionally published. I didn’t get in in time to go the indie signing, but from what I heard it was just as big as the traditional one. They also had Reviewer’s Choice Awards for indie books.

It’s a new world and it looks like RT is along for the ride. :)

If you haven’t read The Witch Thief and would like to, I think the print copies are gone, but it is still available as an ebook and an audio book. Find links here. Be aware that it is book 6 in my Unbound series and I highly recommend that you start with an earlier book, preferably at the beginning with Unbound, although starting with Dark Crusade would work too. (My personal favorites in the series are Unbound, Guardian’s Keep and Wild Hunt.)
